“Count Me In: Safety, Kindness, and Fun Ahead!” 🐺💚💛

💭 "I've always believed that if you put in the work, the results will come." – Michael Jordan

This quote reminds me every day why the small efforts we make truly matter — at home, at school, and in our community. As a principal, I see it in our students trying new things, our teachers preparing lessons with care, and our families supporting their children. Every effort adds up, and the results will come.

Our theme this year, “Count Me In,” is a reminder that we all play a part in creating a safe, respectful, and supportive environment. One way we model this for our students is morning drop-off: pulling all the way forward, being courteous, and following procedures. I want to stress that making a U-turn in front of the school is illegal and unsafe. TK and Kindergarten families, please do not park and get out past the large pole and cone — there are plenty of parking spaces if you’d like to walk your child to the gate. 🚸

We have some exciting ways to come together as a community! On Friday, Oct. 17, join us for Family Fun Night at the Reigns game — families who purchase tickets can go on the ice before the game to hold the flag. Then on Saturday, Oct. 18, don’t miss our 2nd Annual Clash with the Pack, where our flag football and volleyball teams face off against Chino. Our cheerleaders and PACK will be out supporting everyone, and it’s sure to be a fun day!

Our PACK (Parents and Community for Kids) has also been hard at work organizing this month’s events, including our Read-A-Thon, ASA’s first-ever Book Fair, and our Annual Literature Day Parade! 🎉📚

Thank you for being part of this amazing community. When we all say “Count Me In” — supporting, modeling, and encouraging — we are showing our wolves how much we care.

The results may not always be immediate, but they will come — together, we’re building something truly special.

With appreciation,
💚💛 Mrs Valenta

🌎 Hispanic Heritage Month & Growth Mindset 🌱

This month, we have been sharing with our students the incredible contributions of Hispanic leaders who have shaped our world. During our Monday live Howling Circles, Leadership students have highlighted influential STEAM figures such as:
  • Luis von Ahn – A Guatemalan computer scientist and entrepreneur best known as the co-creator of CAPTCHA and founder of Duolingo, whose innovations have transformed how millions learn languages.
  • Dr. Ellen Ochoa – The first Hispanic woman to travel to space and a former director of NASA’s Johnson Space Center, paving the way for future generations in STEM.
  • Julio Palmaz – An Argentine physician and inventor of the balloon-expandable stent, a medical breakthrough that has saved countless lives in cardiovascular care.

From “Not Yet” to Outer Space

This week, Mrs. Valenta will share the inspiring story of NASA astronaut José Hernández, who grew up as a migrant farmworker and was rejected by NASA 11 times before finally achieving his dream of going to space. His journey truly embodies our SEL focus — a Growth Mindset — reminding us that perseverance and determination turn “not yet” into “I did it.”

Fontana Facilities Update
We know many of our Fontana families have been asking about the installation of the play structure and shade structure. Per our Facilities Use Agreement with the Fontana Unified School District, these projects are the responsibility of the district.
The latest update from FUSD indicates that the plans are still with civil engineers and must reach 80% completion before being submitted to the Division of the State Architect (DSA) for approval. The district is awaiting confirmation from their architect on next steps.
We will continue to share updates as soon as we receive them. Thank you for your patience as we work with FUSD to ensure these much-anticipated improvements move forward for our Wolves.

Counseling Connection🍎

This week's school wide Social Emotional Learning (SEL) skill is: Developing a growth mindset means believing in yourself - your abilities, intelligence, and talents can improve if you try and learn. Instead of thinking ‘I can’t do this,’ you practice saying, ‘I can’t do this YET, but I can get better if I keep trying.’ Start by setting a goal - something you want to get better at - and continue to grow as you reach that goal, even when you make mistakes.

Character Skill Reflections
  • Why is it important to have a growth mindset?
  • When you make a mistake, how can this growth mindset help you for next time?

If you have any questions or would like counseling support for your child, you can reach Mr. Thornhill at (909) 258-9937 or via email at aodhan.thornhill@asathrive.org
